From Cockpit to Classroom
24 January, 2010
Two of Bathurst region’s youngest student pilots are moving from one school to another with the end of their holidays.
Dylan Lilley from Capertee and Gerard Dwyer from Oberon have spent their holidays learning to become pilots with Central West Flying at Bathurst Aerodrome.
Both teenagers are just 13, making them the youngest student pilots in the region currently being trained. Both have the aim of flying solo (without an instructor onboard) as soon as they turn 15.
Chief Flying Instructor at Central West Flying, Stuart Park, says that both boys are progressing extremely well and will have the option of doing commercial pilot training in time to come.
Dylan says he has always wanted to learn to fly and to make that his career, following in the footsteps of his dad who is a commercial helicopter pilot.
